Obasanjo opens African trade conference
President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria has called on African countries to seek better trade relations with the rest of the world. The Nigerian leader was opening a meeting in Abuja of an OAU trade conference. Mr Obasanjo said the conference, which is being attended by some 40 African trade ministers, should come up with what he called a clear road map to guide Africa in improving its trade performance, and take part effectively in the new globalised world economy.
