CAR defence minister arrested
The authorities in the Central African Republic say the defence minister, Jean-Jacques Demafouth, has been arrested.

A spokesman for President Patasse said Mr Demafouth was arrested to ensure the security of the Central African Republic.

The arrest comes amid continuing tension in the aftermath of an attempted coup against President Patasse earlier this year.

In a separate development, French officials say the wife of the former ruler, Andre Kolinga, has left the French embassy in Bangui, where she'd taken refuge on Saturday.

Her whereabouts are unknown.
