British man remanded in Ethiopia

A court in Ethiopia has jailed a former British charity worker for two weeks to give police more time to investigate charges that he sexually abused boys at an Ethiopian orphanage.

The man, David Allen, is alleged to have committed the crimes while working for the Swiss-based charity, Terre des Hommes, in the mid-1990s.

Mr Allen says the charity pressurised the boys into making the allegations.

Ethiopian police arrested the former aid worker on Friday after a collaboration with the Charity, and the authorities in Zambia, where it is believed Mr Allen was planning to open a children's centre.
