Somali gunmen kidnap MP
Gunmen in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, have kidnapped a member of the transitional parliament who's alleged to owe them money. The MP Abdirahman Duale Ali has been detained in a house in north Mogadishu for several days. It's the latest of several attacks on MPs -- most of Somalia's faction leaders still refuse to recognise the transitional government set up last year to restore order after nearly a decade of civil war. Earlier this month the speaker of parliament narrowly escaped kidnap and in November an MP was shot dead by gunmen. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
