German church meets on forced labour
Germany's Roman Catholic bishops have been meeting to discuss how their church can compensate the victims of forced labour during the Nazi era. Earlier this year, the Roman Catholic Church admitted that it had used forced labour during the Second World War. The bishops are expected to announce on Tuesday whether they will join the compensation fund set up by Germany's business and industrial sector, or take their own initiative. The country's Lutheran Protestant Church has already said it will contribute to the existing compensation fund. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
