Victims of abuse demand apology
A group of Roman Catholics have held a silent march through central London to demand an unconditional apology from the Church for child abuse carried out by priests. They gathered outside the official residence of Archbishop Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, the head of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales, and handed in a list of over thirteen hundred alleged victims. In response, the Archbishop said he would meet their representatives to address the issue of abuse as a matter of urgency. Last month, the Archbishop faced calls for his resignation after it was revealed that he appointed a priest who was subsequently convicted of sex attacks on children - with the full knowledge that this priest had committed such crimes before.
