Two killed in power riots

At least two people have been killed in a demonstration in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad.

The deaths occured when police opened fire as protestors tried to storm the state assembly; one of the dead was a police constable.

The opposition protest -- against a steep rise in the price of power in Andhra Pradesh -- was held despite the state government's plea for it to be delayed because of the devastation wrought by the past week of floods.

But the opposition rejected this, saying the price rise was putting an unbearable burden on the people of Andhra Pradesh.
