Two injured in nightclub shootings

Two doormen are seriously injured in hospital after they were shot as they tried to break up a fight at a nightclub, police have revealed.

The men intervened in a brawl outside a nightclub in the Epping Forest Country Club complex on Abridge Road, Chigwell in Essex at about 0315BST.

The bouncers had earlier thrown out about 30 clubbers, but they were shot as the trouble continued outside.

One of them has got to undergo surgery

Heather Watts, Essex police

Six people have been arrested on charges of violent disorder.

Essex police spokeswoman Heather Watts told BBC News Online the doormen's injuries were thought to be serious but not life-threatening.

"They've been taken to two separate hospitals, but we are not saying where at this stage.

"One of them has got to undergo surgery today [Monday] I believe."

Officers have sealed off the premises and were taking statements from people still at the club, Ms Watts said.

"We'd like to hear from anyone who was at the club who may have heard something brewing.

"There were 7,000 people there and they may have left before police arrived.

"We're also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard cars speeding away," she added.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Harlow police on 01279 641212.
