Deposed Fijian PM visits Britain

The deposed Fijian Prime Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry, arrives in Britain today as he seeks support for the reinstatement of his government.

Mr. Chaudhry, an ethnic Indian, was deposed in a coup in May and held hostage by Fijian rebels demanding political supremacy over the ethnic Indian community.

The coup leader, George Speight, is in jail facing treason charges. Mr. Chaudhry who has already been to India, New Zealand and Australia, will then go to other European countries and the US. The interim government in Fiji says Mr. Chaudhry is using his tour to undermine the country.
