Seven killed in Congo grenade attack
At least seven people have been killed and another forty injured in a grenade attack in the rebel-held city of Bukavu, in Democratic Republic of Congo. Reports say that the grenade exploded at a social event being hosted by a local brewery in the centre of the city on Saturday night. The main rebel group in Congo, the Congolese Rally for Democracy, has blamed the Congolese president, Laurent Kabila, for the attack, accusing him of using terrorist tactics against the civilian population in areas under rebel control. The Congolese government said recently that it no longer believed in the Lusaka peace agreement it signed a year ago, although it has since agreed to the deployment of UN troops in both government and rebel-held areas.
