Pipe bombs thrown into houses

House on Glenburn Crescent was one of three attacked
Army technical officers have made two pipe bombs safe after houses were attacked in Coleraine, County Londonderry.

The devices were thrown through the windows of homes on Glenburn Crescent and Loughanhill Park.

Neither of the devices exploded and no-one was injured in the attacks.

Meanwhile, nearby in Dervock, County Antrim, a number of homes have been evacuated in the Station Road area after a suspect device was discovered at the front door of a house.

Bomb landed at man's feet

At Loughanhill Park a pipe bomb thrown through the living room window of a house landed at the householder's feet.

His wife, who is pregnant with twins, and their two sons aged one and two, were also in the house at the time.

The family said they did not want to comment on the attack.

However, one relative said that they had been told by the security forces that the pipe bomb was designed to maim or kill.

This week a car was attacked in the same estate in an incident believed to have been linked to a feud between the loyalist paramilitary Ulster Defence Association and the rival Ulster Volunteer Force.

In the Ballysally estate in Coleraine, a pipe bomb was thrown through the window of a house at Glenburn crescent this week.

It did not explode and there were no injuries.

In Dervock a number of homes were evacuated after a suspect device was left at a house on Station Road.

Earlier this week in Dervock, shots were fired at the home of a member of the Progressive Unionist Party, which is linked to the UVF.
