Deal signed on Comoros Islands

The head of the military government in the Comoro islands, Colonel Azali Assoumani, has signed a reconciliation deal with the leader of the Anjouan separatists, Said Abeid Abderemane.

The deal comes three years after Anjouan also known as Nzwani broke away from the other two islands in the Indian Ocean republic.

Colonel Azali said there was no longer any place for hatred among Comorans.

Neither the military government nor the separatists enjoy international recognition.

The Organisation of African Unity earlier rejected the peace deal, saying it would undermine the unity and territorial integrity of the Comoros.
