Pakistan expels Indian diplomat in row

Pakistan has ordered the expulsion of an Indian diplomat in Islamabad just two days after a Pakistani official at the high commission in Delhi was expelled.

Pakistan said the Indian official P.C. Dey, had engaged in what it called activities incompatible with his official status - a term normally used to mean spying.

He has been given a week to leave the country. India gave the same reason when it ordered the expulsion of the Pakistani high commission official Malik Mohammad Rafique, from Delhi.

Pakistan has denied allegations of spying.

On Friday Pakistan lodged a strong protest to India at what it described as unauthorised trespassing, after six plain clothes people, who said they were from the Central Bureau of Investigation allegedly forced themselves into the home of a Pakistani adviser for an "unauthorised search."

It said India had breached the 1961 Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations by their actions.

Pakistan has accused India of expelling 16 of its diplomats on "fabricated charges" in the last five years.

Islamabad also says there have been over 80 incidents where Pakistani officials have had their property vandalised, been harassed an kidnapped.
