Indefinite strike begins in West Bengal

In India, an indefinite strike has begun in the Kespur region of the Midnapore district of West Bengal.

It's been called by the opposition Trinamul Congress party in protest at what it describes as the complete breakdown of law and order in the Kespur region.

But the ruling Marxists say the Trinamul Congress is trying to disrupt the security situation in order to push their demand to hold state assembly elections next year under control from Delhi.

About thirty people have died in the region this year in clashes between supporters from both parties. On Friday, two Marxist supporters were killed when Trinamul Congress supporters threw bombs at a procession near Kespur.
