Thousands rock Glasgow Green
Gig on the Green
A host of bands will be playing during the event
Nearly 20,000 music fans turned out for the first day of Glasgow's biggest music event in a decade.

The Stereophonics and Paul Weller topped the bill on the first night of the first ever Gig on the Green festival.

Oasis will be the star attraction on Saturday night as they top a line-up featuring Scottish favourites like Primal Scream and Teenage Fanclub.

And there could also be a chance of stardom beckoning for a lesser-known local act - because the Gallagher brothers' record label will also be in town.

Big Brother talent scouts will be keeping an eye on the new talent stage at the festival, and are looking to sign a new band to the label.

The two-day event at Glasgow Green features a host of bands and five different stages, including comedy and dance.

Beck, Foo Fighters, Elastica and Eagle Eye Cherry are among the other big-name acts performing over the weekend.

The event requires the same amount of power as it would take to light a small town.

And it has prompted some complaints from neighbours about the noise levels.

However, others see it as part of the area's revitalisation.

Saturday night's performance comes only a month after Noel and Liam Gallagher played to 56,000 fans at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

That was Oasis' first stadium concert in Scotland and their biggest Scottish gig since they played to 80,000 fans over two days at Balloch Castle Country Park, Loch Lomond, in August 1996.
