Colombia seizes cocaine worth millions
Colombian police have seized about a tonne-and-a-half of cocaine in a central region of the country where paramilitary gangs operate. The drugs, worth more than two-hundred million dollars, were discovered near the town of Puerto Berrio. No-one was arrested, but a police spokesman said they suspected that the cocaine belonged to paramilitaries. It's the third major drugs bust over the last week and comes just days before President Clinton is due to visit Colombia. On Tuesday, Mr Clinton gave final approval for a one point three billion dollar aid package of mostly military aid to help Colombia fight the drugs trade. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
