Priest critic of Kenyan government murdered

An American priest working in Kenya, Father Anthony Kaiser, has been found dead.

An official at the Kenya Catholic Secretariat was quoted as saying there were gunshot wounds to Father Anthony's body which was discovered some fifty miles west of Nairobi near Naivasha.

Police have given no details yet of the motive for the killing.

Father Anthony had over the years criticised the human rights record of the Kenyan government, at one time accusing cabinet ministers of fomenting ethnic violence in Kenya's Rift Valley in the early nineties. He was working in the western Trans-Mara district at the time of his death.
