More Spanish arrests of African immigrants

Spanish police have arrested one-hundred-and-seventy-nine Africans who they say were entering the country illegally, in a series of separate actions.

Those arrested included families with children.

Most were picked up in small boats in the Strait of Gibraltar, apparently having come from Morocco.

One boat had capsized.

Others were picked up on roads near the coast.

They bring to about six-hundred the number of Africans accused of illegally entering southern Spain over the past week, apparently hoping to find work in the European Union.
