Mexico bans foreign activists

Reports from Mexico say officials have banned a group of American and Canadian anti-abortion activists from returning to the country for the next five years.

The government news agency said the group -- four Canadian evangelists and six from the United States -- had joined other protestors in Mexico City last week, despite a law prohibiting foreigners from involvement in domestic politics.

According to the agency, officials are also considering fining Mexico's National Pro-Life Committee for inviting the activists to the demonstration.

The protests followed a decision by legislators in Mexico City to allow abortion in certain circumstances.

Abortion is illegal in all of Mexico's thirty-one states.
