Arrest in Indian fertiliser scam
Indian security officials have arrested a London-based businessman, A E Pinto, one of the main suspects in a multi-million dollar fertiliser scam. He was arrested in Delhi shortly after being extradited from Britain. India had been lobbying for his extradition for the past two years. Mr Pinto represented a Turkish firm, Messrs Karsan, that signed a contract with the Indian government five years ago to supply fertiliser. The government says it has paid all the money but has not received any fertiliser. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
