Arrest in Indian fertiliser scam

Indian security officials have arrested a London-based businessman, A E Pinto, one of the main suspects in a multi-million dollar fertiliser scam.

He was arrested in Delhi shortly after being extradited from Britain.

India had been lobbying for his extradition for the past two years.

Mr Pinto represented a Turkish firm, Messrs Karsan, that signed a contract with the Indian government five years ago to supply fertiliser.

The government says it has paid all the money but has not received any fertiliser.
