Clinton meets Mexican president-elect

The Mexican president-elect, Vicente Fox, has been meeting President Clinton in the White House to outline his radical proposals for changing the relationship between the two countries.

Mr Fox has called for an opening of borders and greater integration to help create jobs and raise income levels in Mexico.

He argues that the US places too much emphasis on trying to block illegal immigrants from Mexico, instead of seeing them as a valuable economic resource.

Mr Clinton said he's interested in hearing Mr Fox's ideas, but added that the US would still have to enforce the laws that apply to its borders. Earlier, Mr Fox met the vice-president, Al Gore, who's the Democrat candidate in the US presidential election in November.

He'll meet the Republican candidate, George W.

Bush, in Texas on Friday._
