India to debate censored security report

A long-awaited report into the Indian national security system is due to be debated by parliament in Delhi today.

The report was ordered last year after Islamic militants made extensive incursions from Pakistani territory into Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The BBC Delhi correspondent says the report into what became known as the Kargill incursion was presented to the Indian government six months ago and was scathing about glaring failures in every single agency responsible for national security.

But he says that what will go to parliament today will be a heavily censored version, and the opposition is bound to protest over a report from which important details have been deleted.
