German police: Feared a repeat of violence in Turkey
Thirteen Leeds United supporters have been remanded in custody by a judge in Germany after they made Nazi salutes and chanted "Sieg Heil" ahead of their team's match against 1860 Munich.

German police detained 13 men, aged between 19 and 44, on Tuesday in Munich's Hofbraeuhaus beer garden.

Behaving like that does no credit to the club or the country

Three more fans were due in court on Thursday.

It is illegal to make the Nazi salute or repeat Nazi slogans in German law.

Police in Munich were worried that Leeds fans might take revenge for the deaths of two supporters who were killed at last season's Uefa Cup semi-final clash between Leeds and the Turkish club Galatasaray.

Christopher Loftus, 37, and Kevin Speight, 40, were stabbed to death in Galatasaray on the eve of the football match.

Murder trial

Ali Umit Demir and three other men are on trial in Turkey charged with their murders.

Leeds United Supporters Club chairman Ray Fell said he thought Wednesday's arrests in Munich were an isolated incident.

"These fans ought to have more sense - behaving like that does no credit to the club or the country.

"But I hope there will be no revenge attacks," he said. "It's time to start looking to the future, not living in the past."

Leeds United won Wednesday night's game 1-0 after a 46th minute goal from David O'Leary.

They went through 3-1 on aggregate and will join Manchester United and Arsenal in Thursday's second-round draw.
