Three die in Burundi market attack

A grenade explosion in a crowded market in Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi, has killed at least three people and seriously wounded eight others.

An unidentified attacker flung the grenade at a group of traders who were busy organising their goods for sale.

Correspondents say that violence around Bujumbura has escalated recently.

This is despite vigorous efforts by the former-South African president, Nelson Mandela, to negotiate an end to the conflict between ethnic-Hutu rebels and the country's Tutsi-led army.

Mr Mandela has invited President Clinton and other world leaders to the planned signing of a peace accord in Tanzania in five days time.
