UN report raps British race record

The United Nations says it's deeply concerned about the state of race relations in Britain.

In a report, it says that ethnic minorities in this country feel increasingly vulnerable to racist attacks and harassment.

It also asserts that racism within the police and other public bodies has led to serious shortcomings in the way racist incidents are investigated.

The UN committee that monitors racial discrimination is due to issue its full conclusions on Friday.

At hearings earlier this month, British officials told the committee that Britain had some of the most extensive anti-racism legislation in Europe.
