Japanese encephalitis strikes Nepal

The authorities in Nepal say 53 people have died from Japanese encephalitis in the past four months.

Health officials said the number could go up until the end of the monsoon season because there were not enough vaccines to protect people against the disease.

Outbreaks of Japanese encephalitis, a mosquito-borne brain viral infection, are common in Nepal during the monsoon season.
