Bangladesh envoy in Pakistan

The Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh, Shafi Sami, is in Pakistan for talks with the military leader, General Pervez Musharraf.

Mr Sami is also expected to deliver a letter from the Bangladeshi prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, to General Musharraf.

At a press briefing in Dhaka on Monday, Mr Sami refused to disclose the contents of the letter.

But correspondents say it is believed to contain proposals to reactivate the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) which has been stalled since the military takeover in Pakistan last October.

Mr Sami said that Sheikh Hasina is expected to meet General Musharraf early next month in New York on the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly's new session.
