Gay activists protest against Scouts
Gay rights activists in the United States are holding nationwide protests against a ban by the Boy Scout movement on members who are openly homosexual. Waving banners and shouting slogans, they held marches in thirty-six cities across the country. They argue that the policy amounts to discrimination and are pressing for public funding for the Scouts to be withdrawn. In June, the US Supreme Court ruled that the organisation could exclude gays from its membership, in a ruling which was seen as a setback by gay rights campaigners.
