| The German Chancellor, Gerhard Schroeder, begins a rather unusual tour of his own country today: a tour of eastern German states where attacks on foreigners by supporters of the extreme right have killed four people this year alone, where high unemployment and huge dissatisfaction with his government are the norm. It seems that ten years after the fall of the Berlin Wall and unification of West and East Germany, many in the former east still feel left out of the prosperity of the west, and ignored by the government in Berlin. |
