US vice president Al Gore has chosen the senator as a running mate for the presidential election in November. Mr Lieberman, who is an orthodox jew, was the first prominent Democrat publicly to criticise President Clinton for his conduct with Monica Lewinsky. The BBC's Stephen Sackur reports:
