Spanish forest fire brought under control
Fire-fighters in the north-east of Spain have brought under control a major forest fire which had forced the temporary evacuation of several thousand people. The fire, in the Catalonia region, destroyed more than six-thousand hectares, mainly in the coastal Cabo de Creus nature reserve. Strong winds had hampered efforts to control the fire, which broke out on Sunday. There have been no reports of deaths or serious injuries. More than twenty planes were involved in the fire-fighting operation, including four sent from France. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
