Boy saved in pool rescue
An off-duty fireman and a paramedic helped to save an 11-year-old boy who was discovered unconscious in a swimming pool in north Wales.

The incident happened during a Sunday School trip at a pool in a holiday complex at Morfa Bychan, near Porthmadog in Gwynedd.

The fireman from Manchester was among those who spotted Dewi Jones, of Llandudno, unconscious beneath the surface and carried him from the pool and began artificial respiration.

He was then joined by local paramedic Jeffrey Jones, who had been called out from home and he was able to revive him by using a tube to get air into his lungs.

Dewi was flown to Gwynedd Hospital at Bangor by the North Wales police helicopter.

On Monday, the boy was due to be transferred by ambulance to the intensive care unit at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.

A spokesman for the holiday village said there had been three lifeguards at the scene who followed their training, and all the correct procedures were in place.
