Does Britain still matter on the world stage?

Former foreign secretary Douglas Hurd says he cannot imagine a world where there is no crucial place for Britain.

He was joined for a special Radio 4 debate on international affairs by the Director of Chatham House Dr Robin Niblett, former German SDP MP Monika Griefahn, American academic Dr Stefan Halper of Cambridge University, and Indian academic Professor Kanti Bajpai of Oxford University.

The debate which also covered climate change, global inequality, nuclear proliferation and Islamic militancy can be heard on Radio 4 at 2000BST on Wednesday 19 May 2010 or afterwards at The World Tonight Special Debate website.
