A mobile classroom at a school in west Belfast has been extensively damaged in an arson attack.

Police said the fire at St Ciaran's Primary on the Bellsteel Road in Poleglass was discovered shortly after 0800 BST on Sunday.

West Belfast Social Democratic and Labour Party assembly member Alex Attwood has called for increased public vigilance following the arson attack at the school.

Mr Attwood called on those carrying out such attacks to think twice.

He said: "As with all the other attacks in recent weeks, this is a very disturbing situation and there is a need for greater viligance by everyone.

"They destroy public property and damage community relations," he said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact detectives at Woodburn RUC Station.
