SPLA says government garrisons captured

The rebel Sudan People's Liberation Army -- the SPLA -- says it has captured two key garrisons after a government offensive in the Bahr el-Ghazal region.

According to a SPLA spokesman Samson Kwaje the capture of the garrisons, north of the town of Aweil, was a response to attacks SPLA units by the Sudanese army.

He said casualty figures would be released later.

Fighting in the long-running conflict flared up again last month with the SPLA reporting several key victories in the region.

The Sudanese government has made no statement on the latest rebel report.
