More seals die in Caspian Sea

A senior environmental official in Kazakhstan says seals have started dying again off the coast of the Caspian Sea.

The head of the ecological monitoring department of the Mangistau region, Turlan Mukashev, said the carcasses of nearly ninety seals had been found over the past week.

The deaths come after four thousand seals died in May in the Kazakh part of the Caspian Sea.

Scientists attributed the cause of the deaths to a mixture of unusually warm weather, which made the seals vulnerable to infection, and pollution.
