Three Kosovo Serbs escape UN custody

Three Kosovo Serbs accused of genocide or other war crimes have escaped from the hospital where they were being held in custody.

The United Nations administration in Kosovo said the three had been in their beds in the room they shared when the official on duty checked on them last night.

But a later inspection found them gone.

The UN said the accused had been moved from a detention centre to a hospital in the Kosovo city of Mitrovica on the advice of international doctors.

The UN is holding an internal investigation into the case. The three men were arrested separately last year.
