Chinese radio 'in trouble' for criticism

Officials at a radio station in southern China have confirmed that a caller on a phone-in programme accused the Communist Party on air of rampant corruption.

The officials, at the Guangdong People's Radio, would give no more details, but a Hong Kong-based human rights group the Information Centre for Human Rights and Democracy says it expected the head of the Guangdong station to be fired for allowing such forbidden public criticism of the authorities.

It's not known whether the caller, who said there was no solution for China short of the Communists stepping down from power, was speaking from within the country.
