Hindu pilgrimage to Amarnath resumed
The annual Hindu pilgrimage to the cave shrine of Amarnath in Indian-administered Kashmir has resumed. About three thousand people left Jammu for the base camp in Pahalgam amid tight security arrangements. The pilgrimage was suspended earlier this week after the killing of nearly thirty pilgrims along the route by suspected separatist militants. The Defence Minister, George Fernandes, was due in Jammu today to review security for the pilgrimage. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
