The funerals of a mother and her four children bludgeoned to death in their south Wales home have taken place.

The bodies of 45-year-old Catherine Mochrie, her two sons and two daughters - Bethan, 10, Luke, 14, Sian 16 and 18-year-old James - were discovered by Police 12 days ago.

It is believed that 49-year-old Robert Mochrie killed his family then hanged himself.

He is to be cremated on a date yet to be set.

The funerals were held at St Helen's Catholic Church in Barry - where a memorial service was held last week - before a burial in Cardiff.

The discovery of all six bodies in their detached house in Barry nearly a fortnight ago shocked the nation.

Police have admitted they may never know the reason for the mass murder and apparent suicide in Rutland Close.

The details of post mortem examinations are still being awaited.

Detective Superintendent Kevin O'Neill said on Tuesday no clear motive had emerged to explain the deaths.

Police are examining the family's financial background, their relationships and the couple's marriage to look for clues.
