China holds large scale military exercises

China has announced it's holding large-scale land, sea, and air military exercises involving more than one-hundred thousand troops.

The war games held by the Nanjing military district are said to stretch from eastern Jiangsu province on the Yellow Sea to the East China Sea off Fujian -- the province facing Taiwan.

The Communist Party newspaper reported a Chinese military spokesman as saying the exercises were of a scale rarely seen in recent years in terms of their scope, number of participating troops, and thoroughness. An unnamed military official was quoted as saying the exercises were necessary to win future local conflicts under high-tech conditions.
