Fox officially named president-elect

The first opposition leader to win a presidential election in Mexico in more than seventy years, Vicente Fox, has been officially designated president-elect.

Mr Fox promised that social justice would be a priority during his government after the Electoral Tribunal officially confirmed his victory in elections earlier this month.

Mr Fox -- from the conservative National Action Party -- said he would fight corruption in Mexico and lead an efficient and socially responsible government.

He also apologised to his political rivals for attacks he had launched on them during the campaign and said he would include rival parties in his cabinet. Mr Fox takes office in December.
