Colombian police break drugs ring

Colombian police have arrested thirty members of a notorious drugs ring which smuggled cocaine and heroin from the country's Caribbean coast to the United States.

The head of the national police force, General Luis Ernesto Gilibert, said that Colombian and U.S. agents raided six cities along the coast.

Among those arrested is Libardo Para , believed to be the head of the coastal drugs cartel.

A BBC correspondent in Bogota says, however, that the Colombian authorities are losing their fight against drugs as they are unable to destroy the crops, which are protected by guerrillas and right-wing paramilitaries.
