Pakistan leader talks to BBC Online

General Musharraf's comments on Kashmir came during a live interview on the BBC's Internet service, BBC News Online.

Fielding questions from viewers and listeners around the world, the General went on to say that he was ready to negotiate with India on the Kashmir issue anywhere and at any time.

He called for a reduction in both India's and Pakistan's armed forces and for what he called "a no-war pact", but he said: "The ball is in India's court". General Musharraf also spoke about his plan to stay in power for another two years, during which time he said he hoped to make significant progress in his campaign against corruption in Pakistan.

Asked how he differed from his country's previous military leaders, he said he was not there for, as he put it, "self-perpetuation" He said he wanted to restructure the country which, he added, he was doing by means of a civilian and not a military administration.
