UN to start South Lebanon deployment
The United Nations in Lebanon says its peacekeeping troops will start the final phase of their deployment along the Lebanese-Israel border later today. A UN spokesman in the Lebanese capital Beirut said the deployment process will take a few days as the UN will have to set up the infrastructure as well as to remove mines. Last week, about two-hundred international peacekeepers took up six positions along the border, more than two months after Israel ended its twenty-two year occupation of South Lebanon. Lebanon had delayed the UN deployment several times because it was not satisfied that all Israeli incursions had ended. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
