Man held after shots fired
A 19-year-old man has been arrested after armed police sealed off a village in Ayrshire.

The operation began after four shots were heard from the grounds of a disused primary school in Dundonald, three miles from Troon.

Police received reports of a man at large with a gun at 0130BST on Wednesday.

A police helicopter used its searchlight to sweep streets and the surrounding countryside while dog handlers moved into the area.

Three spent cartridges were recovered from the grounds of Dundonald Primary School and a man was arrested at 0500BST.

Local resident David Lane said: "There was a big police and for about 20 minutes a helicopter was flying in tight circles around the eastern end of the village."

A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said a man had been charged and was expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Thursday.
