Ghana honours famous son Kofi Annan
The United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, who's on an official visit to his homeland, Ghana, has been awarded the country's highest honour. Mr Annan became a Companion of the Order of the Star of Ghana at a state banquet given on Tuesday night by president Jerry Rawlings. Mr Rawlings described the UN Secretary General, the first from sub-Saharan Africa, as a man of honour who had brought pride to Ghana and the continent. In response, Mr Annan paid tribute to Ghana saying he had never forgotten his roots. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
