76 arrested outside British submarine base
Police in Britain have detained seventy-six anti-nuclear protestors at a submarine base in Scotland. The demonstrators had tried to block the entrance of the Faslane naval base which is home to four British Trident nuclear submarines. Around a hundred and thirty campaigners had sat down in front of the gates to prevent workers from getting in. The organisers of the protest said they would continue their actions for two weeks. A spokesman for the base said the protest had been peaceful. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
