Ninety killed in Kashmir attacks

The Indian authorities say at least ninety people have been killed in a wave of attacks in Indian-administered Kashmir, in the wake of new peace moves there.

The full extent of the killings over the past twenty-four hours became apparent as reports filtered in from different parts of the region.

The victims included Hindu labourers at a village near Anantnag in the Kashmir valley and Hindu villagers who were lined up and shot in the Doda district of Jammu.

The violence erupted on Tuesday with an attack near a Hindu pilgrim site at Amarnath, in which local Muslims also died.

India has blamed the killings on Kashmiri militant groups opposed to Indian rule.

They've rejected a ceasefire declared by Hizbul Mujahideen militants last week and a government offer of talks.
