Women to lead Islamic prayers
Religious leaders in Iran have lifted a ban on women leading prayers. They'll now be able to lead worshippers of their own sex, particularly in girls' schools. Correspondents say there's been concern over a declining interest in Islam among young people, and the authorities hope this new move will encourage more to participate. An education official said the decision would help persuade schoolgirls to pray. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
